Drone Forensics with Oxygen Forensic® Detective.

We added support for Drone Data in Oxygen Forensic® Detective v.15.4. You can extract drone data from mobile apps and the cloud and then easily analyze it with our analysis tools.

Drone data analysis can be crucial in many types of investigations. Oxygen Forensics offers various methods of DJI and Parrot drone data extraction and analysis. In the Oxygen Forensic® Detective v.15.4, we’ve also introduced support for iFlight drone logs. Let’s take a closer look at this new feature.

Main Drone Data Sources

Oxygen Forensic® Detective offers investigators the ability to analyze drone flight history and flight parameters from drone logs and dumps.

All the drone import options are available on Oxygen Forensic® Detective’s home screen:

Drone data sources can be as follows:

  • DJI and Parrot drone images obtained with the third-party software
  • DJI drone logs from the drone internal memory
  • Parrot drone logs from SD cards
  • iFlight drone logs from memory cards of drone remote controls
  • DJI Go flight logs from DJI Go mobile app folders
  • DJI Assistant backup that can be found on a computer

Moreover, older models of DJI Spark and DJI Mavic drones can be directly connected and extracted in our software:

Drone Data from Mobile Apps

Drones can be controlled by corresponding apps on Android or iOS-based devices.

Oxygen Forensic® Detective supports several drone mobile apps. The information that can be extracted includes:

  • Account details
  • Uploaded images and  videos
  • Flight information  with  locations
  • Time stamps
  • Other users’ uploaded files and comments

Drone Data from Cloud

Some drone data can be transmitted and stored in the user’s online account, the manufacturer’s cloud, or in both locations. With the use of Oxygen Forensic® Detective, the investigator is able to obtain access to the DJI and My Parrot drone clouds via password or token and extract the information about the account, the drone model, the flight history, and parameters.

Drone Data Analysis

Oxygen Forensic® Detective automatically parses  GPS  locations  as well as route data. This data is decoded to provide critical information representing the drone flight history in a chronological order within the Timeline section. Furthermore, the examiner can see all the related metadata, including the drone’s speed, altitude, and direction in the information sidebar.

Oxygen Forensic® Maps

Oxygen   Forensic® Maps automatically builds a visual route complete with points of interest  (points on the map where the drone was used to shoot pictures or capture video footage). The related drone metadata is displayed in the information sidebar.

Oxygen Forensic® Maps module allows experts to import separate drone .dat log files to track the flight path when only a single file is available for the investigation. Documentation is important, so within Oxygen Forensic® Maps, the ability to save the drone flight route as an image or as a snapshot is available.

Oxygen Forensic® Detective enables export of drone data from any section to popular file formats, like PDF, RTF, XLS, XML, and more.
