Skout Data Extraction

Dating apps over the past 10 years have been helpful in assisting people to connect and meet new people in their surrounding area. However, it can also be used with malicious intent.

In Oxygen Forensic® Detective v.14.6, we’ve added support for one more popular dating app – Skout.

What is Skout?

Skout was one of the first location-based social networking and dating apps that allowed users to find other users nearby. The service was founded in 2007 by Christian Wiklund and Niklas Lindstrom and is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

From the start, Skout has been mentioned multiple times in criminal news.

Skout Data Extraction

To extract Skout data from Apple iOS devices, we recommend investigators use the full file system extraction via checkm8 or iOS Agent.

Logical extraction via iTunes backup procedure will yield almost the complete data set  – only video streaming and cached data will be missing.

Investigators can extract Skout data from Android devices using various methods – screen-lock bypass, full file system, and even ADB backup. Usually, app data is not included in ADB backups. However, Skout data is available in ADB backup and all data except cache will be extracted.
